Yes its that time of year, again. It’s the holidays and there will be food everywhere, every day. Missing the parties or denying yourself some treats will turn you into a “grump” ( not a grinch) and ruin the season for anyone around you. So… let’s make a plan to choose wiser AND enjoy the festivities with a new game called Swap-A Rama!
There is any number of great cookbooks that can show you how to interchange ingredients for less fat, sugar, and calories. And the food still tastes great. But when you go to a party and you’re not in charge of the kitchen, you need a strategy to combat the extra calories.
PIE: This is a staple in most homes during Thanksgiving. To prevent the double helping of sugar choose the traditional pumpkin pie over the pecan. Add a small dollop of whip cream and pass on the side of ice cream.
DIP: We talked before about eating out of a bowl or bag. In the end, you have no idea how much you ate. Choose veggies over chips or crackers to save on the white flour. And if you can, salsa over “creamy anything dip” is a better. Fewer carbs and less fat.
COOKIES: Another important holiday tradition. Go for one or two of the shortbread or gingerbread vs the frosted or sugar cookie ( but definitely don’t pass up the cookies).
DRINKS: Moderation is KEY when it comes to any type of alcohol. Beer has more calories than wine, and white wine more than red. If you’re skipping the alcohol altogether, go with sparkling water or half water half juice. NO SODA, period.!!
Indulge, and Enjoy, but not to Excess!
